Show HN: A macOS menu bar app showing Claude subscription usage

Hacker News - Fri, 08/14/2026 - 7:00am

i use multiple Claude products, and i constantly check my usage limits, but there was never an instant way to do it. i kept opening claude ai > settings > usage or hitting /usage in the cli.

i wanted a way to have that information always visible and at reach. so i built usagent. it's a macOS menu bar app always showing usage limits, the 5h window and the weekly window. by default, usagent shows whichever is closer to its limit. you can click to see both with full info. i, personally, make it always show the 5h window regardless.

i never hit /usage again or opened claude ai just to see my limits.

Show HN: Built an ESP32 remote that groups Sonos speakers and sets group volume

Hacker News - Fri, 08/14/2026 - 6:58am

My Sonos remote groups all my speakers with one touch.

Grouping and volume are what I use most, and going into the app every time is annoying.

On the speakers themselves you can only group by walking over to one and long-holding the play button.

There is no way to raise the volume of a whole group at all.

I am blown away by how quickly this came together and how well it works. I programmed my first C game on a ti92plus in 2000.

I read all the code codex wrote and it gave me memories from my early years of coding.

The ESP32 is really fast and a great piece of hardware.

I am excited to build more.

Show HN: Am-1 Arpeggio Machine – A Love Letter to Berlin School Music

Hacker News - Fri, 08/14/2026 - 6:49am

I have been entranced by Berlin School music for years. I love those evolving and interwoven arpeggios. Latching an arp is often my favorite way to noodle on a synth, and yes it’s because I can’t play to save my life.

Last month I got tired of waiting for someone else to build my dream arp machine, so I built my own in the form of a web synth. It is purpose-built for sculpting and performing with melodies. I call it the AM-1 Arpeggio Machine.

My next goal is to port the web engine into hardware format (using the Daisy Seed). But in the meantime, since the web app is perfectly usable, I figured why not make it free and open source. It can be used as a fun and interactive patch tool for the eventual hardware version.
