Ask HN: Do you still use Search Engines?

Hacker News - Tue, 04/08/2025 - 5:23am

Today, I noticed that my behavior has shifted over the past few months. Right now, I exclusively use ChatGPT for any kind of search or question.

Using Google now feels completely lackluster in comparison.

I've noticed the same thing happening in my circle of friends as well—and they don’t even have a technical background.

How about you?

Ask HN: Anyone want to endorse me on Arxiv?

Hacker News - Tue, 04/08/2025 - 5:05am

I would like to publish on arxiv, in the cs.* (for the paper I have in mind right now, just a front-end/webdev paper). Some guidance on which category to use would also be helpful.

Can some kind soul please endorse me on arxiv? I am posting under my real name here, and my profile is correct and up to date.

I am willing to answer any questions over DM if necessary.

[EDIT: I am under the impression that arxiv still requires endorsements. This may be an incorrect assumption.]

Show HN: I made yet another AI chat bot because I hate monthly subscriptions

Hacker News - Tue, 04/08/2025 - 4:24am

I was tired of paying monthly subscriptions for all my AI tools and I wanted to pay just for what I use so I combined the AI chats I use to create my own chat - MyChat (pun intended)

MyChat is an all-in-one chat bot that has a pay-as-you-go business model.

The tech stack I used was NextJS, TypeScript, MongoDB, Clerk, TailwindCSS, ShadCN, Stripe, the OpenAI API hosted on Hostinger with Coolify. The code base is currently around 3500 lines of code. (About 500 of them are redundant code)

The web app itself is not complicated the only complex thing in it is the math that's mapping the different api tokens to MyChat tokens, but it's also my only competetive advantage so I sadly can't even share it.

Show HN: SVQK – A Full-Stack Starter Kit for Svelte and Quarkus

Hacker News - Tue, 04/08/2025 - 4:17am

We are developing an open-source asset called SVQK, designed for building web applications using Svelte (Frontend) and Quarkus (Backend).

SVQK is used as a Maven archetype (a project template), and it comes in three variations:

- refimpl: An archetype that includes a ticket management feature as a reference implementation. - arch: Derived from refimpl, this archetype removes the ticket management-specific features while retaining common functionalities. - skeleton: A minimal archetype that strips out the common functionalities from arch, leaving only the essential structure.

Each archetype is published on Maven Central and can be used directly with Maven commands. Additionally, the following tools and scripts are integrated into each archetype:

- Docker + PostgreSQL - Flyway + database migration scripts - Playwright + end-to-end test scripts - Yeoman + scaffolding tool

All of these tools can be set up and executed with a single command.

For instructions on how to get started with SVQK, please refer to the following quick start guide.

We’d love your feedback, contributions, or just to hear what you think.
