Show HN: Keychron macOS Battery Life and Controls

Hacker News - Fri, 09/11/2026 - 2:26pm

I was struggling with getting this working as there's no official support for reporting battery life via bluetooth and via cable. It took a bit of trial and error - but there's a working menu bar item, a control center command, works with the desktop widget (where you'd see airpods, mouse etc), and you can control lighting with it! Hopefully it helps someone :) A lot of credit goes to claude code and Keychron for having open source firmware. This was tested with K10 Pro.

Ask HN: How are much smarter AI models made?

Hacker News - Fri, 09/11/2026 - 2:24pm

I am curious what actually happens between two generations of AI models.

For example, how do you go from Sonnet to Opus? Is Opus trained from scratch, built on Sonnet, or mostly the same model with more compute and training?

And how do models like Astra suddenly make a big jump in some capabilities? What is stopping Anthropic, Mistral, or others from doing the same thing? Is the main difference just more compute and money, or are there training methods, data, architecture, and research breakthroughs that competitors may not know about?

I can't think of a better place to ask this. I am guessing there are people here who actually work on these models and know what goes on behind the scenes.

Show HN: Minimal Static Website Hosting Tool

Hacker News - Fri, 09/11/2026 - 2:20pm

I built this because I self host a lot of stuff and wanted to simplify tossing up a simple static site with no backend, no NGINX/Caddy/Traffik configs, instantly deploy with a single file copy. Powered by Golang's built-in reverse proxy package.

Another awesome freebie is this is built on top of [Pocketbase](https://pocketbase.io/), so the whole app is API driven for free. This gives you some AI integration points off the bat.

Great for whipping up demos to pitch to clients, or quick and dirty temporary static sites to share with friends, family or coworkers.
