Ask HN: I am not able to find a job. Should I switch stacks?

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 9:58am

I have 4 years of experience working with React, Next.js, and Node.js.

Other than that, I have also done some work with React Native and Three.js.

My last contract ended about 3 months ago, and I have been trying to find new work since then. I started with LinkedIn, then reached out through my network, HN threads, Wellfound, Reddit, and other platforms.

I also tried reaching out directly to startup founders building things in areas I like, such as worldbuilding and writing-related products. But many of them are also early-stage and do not seem to have much funding or hiring capacity right now.

At the moment, I can find around 6–8 jobs per week, but it is not moving forward. I am not based in the US, which is another hurdle.

I am open to learning new things. I have also done some work and courses around LLMs and RAG, so I would be open to working in that area too.

I’m wondering if I should continue with React/Next.js and keep applying, or if it makes sense to switch to another stack.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What would you suggest? And how can I show experience in another stack?

Show HN: Personalized, narrated bedtime stories for kids

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 9:58am

Sometimes my son isn't in the mood for any of the bedtime books on his shelf and he asks me to make up a story, but my improv skills are sorely lacking. So I built Hushwillow to use for those nights. It creates personalized, narrated stories with the kid as the hero, weaves in their interests, steers clear of their sensitivities (and generally bad words/topics), and always comes to a calm landing, followed by some sleepy music. The listening experience is designed to be screen-free, so if you have a Yoto you can automatically push the audio there. If you have a Tonie or some other speaker, you can export the audio to load it up yourself.

Show HN: Present and Build Whiteboards, Flowcharts and Diagrams on iPhone

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 9:49am

Hi HN! I built a native iPhone and iPad whiteboard app on top of the open source Excalidraw libraries, combining them with several other open source components to create a polished offline experience. I also added features like AirPlay presentation mode with an integrated laser pointer, along with over 100 fonts and 400 backgrounds for customization. It was a fun project that brings together a lot of great open source work into a native iOS app. It's completely free to use. There are no ads, tracking, no purchases, or anything like that. I use Excalidraw a lot, and I wanted something I can play with on my phone. Please give it a try and let me know if you run into any bugs. Thanks
