Ask HN: Need advice–my mom is ill, dog injured, and I'm home with a baby

Tue, 04/15/2025 - 11:17pm

Hi everyone, I’m a young mother trying to care for my baby, my mom, and our dog — all at once, during a very difficult time.

My mother recently had spinal surgery and needs long-term rehabilitation, medication, and rest. Around the same time, our dog — whom she loves dearly and calls her "son" — developed another spinal hernia. He already had surgery once, and now he’s dragging his back legs again. He needs an urgent MRI and possibly a second operation.

I can't work right now — my baby needs constant care, and my mom isn’t able to earn anything. We've spent our savings on treatments, and now we’re struggling to cover food and rent.

I’ve never asked for help like this before. It’s uncomfortable. But I’m running out of time and options, so I created a Ko-fi page where kind people can read more or support if they feel like it:

ko-fi.com/peachykunoichi

Even advice or simply sharing the link would help us more than I can say. Thank you for reading, and thank you for this space.

Show HN: Mathstick – A Classic Matchstick Puzzle Game with a Twist

Tue, 04/15/2025 - 11:12pm

I made a new web-based puzzle game called Mathstick, inspired by the classic matchstick brain teasers.

The rule is simple: move one and only one matchstick to fix the equation. The twist: every puzzle is programmatically generated, with increasing difficulty across 10 levels.

You earn matchsticks by solving puzzles and use them to unlock higher levels. Since puzzles are randomly generated, even replaying earlier levels gives you fresh challenges — a small but fun way to keep exploring.

No downloads, no logins, just play in your browser (desktop or mobile): https://www.trangram.com/games/mathstick

Would love to hear your thoughts!
