Open-source project that use LLM as deception system

Hacker News - Fri, 05/30/2025 - 3:13am

Hello everyone

I wanted to share a project I've been working on that I think you'll find really interesting. It's called Beelzebub, an open-source honeypot framework that uses LLMs to create incredibly realistic and dynamic deception environments.

By integrating LLMs, it can mimic entire operating systems and interact with attackers in a super convincing way. Imagine an SSH honeypot where the LLM provides plausible responses to commands, even though nothing is actually executed on a real system.

The goal is to keep attackers engaged for as long as possible, diverting them from your real systems and collecting valuable, real-world data on their tactics, techniques, and procedures. We've even had success capturing real threat actors with it!

I'd love for you to try it out, give it a star on GitHub, and maybe even contribute! Your feedback,

especially from an LLM-centric perspective, would be incredibly valuable as we continue to develop it.

You can find the project here:

GitHub:https://github.com/mariocandela/beelzebub

Research using beelzebub on public network: - https://beelzebub-honeypot.com/blog/how-cybercriminals-make-money-with-cryptojacking/

Let me know what you think in the comments! Do you have ideas for new LLM-powered honeypot features?

Thanks for your time!

The Ivy League Dream possible for Indian middle class

Hacker News - Fri, 05/30/2025 - 3:04am

Hi, I am Hakam Singh, and I am building a project called Ivygo. This is supposed to help out folks in India who want to have a sure roadmap of how to get into a top school, but cannot have such a roadmap because an average admissions counsellor here takes almost as much as India's GDP per capita as fees right now.(No Joke). Now, I know that I was not planning to build something out till November 2026,but what can I do? Building is a compulsive addiction for me. Anyways, I have bought the domain and made a logo. Now, it is time to build out an MVP and ship as fast as possible. Also, keep in mind that I have never written a piece of code in my life. So, this journey is going to be downright crazy. I wonder if I should use a no-code platform or actually code stuff. Anyway, I will keep you posted.

Show HN: Because Apple's daily rings are limited: App for weekly activity goals

Hacker News - Fri, 05/30/2025 - 2:41am

I build my 2nd iOS App as a new developer and I'm looking for feedback.

My idea was to build a weekly activity tracker because I was not happy with Apple's activity rings. I had 2 major problems with them: 1) Daily metrics. For me, I'm often having 7000 calories a week, but 1000 as a daily goal to have consistently is very unrealistic. I get the point of the daily motivation with the ring, but why not try it weekly or last 7 days. 2) Especially the stand metric is very useless I feel. I wanted different metics.

So the app is solving exactly those two issues for now.

It's tracking: - Minutes of vigorous and moderate exercise (based on time in heart rate zones 1-2 for moderate and 3-5 for vigorous) - Steps taken - Calories burned - Time spent in specific heart rate zones (Zone 1-5) - Distance for walking, running, cycling, and swimming - Flights climbed - Time in daylight - all your workouts in minutes

It's using as a time period: - this week (starting monday) - this week (starting sunday) - last 7 days

Visually, I'm using progress bars, with a projection if set to "this week". With "last 7 days" the goal would be to always have a full bar.

I'm not tracking any data The app is free https://apps.apple.com/us/app/weekly-activities/id6746421016

Happy to get feedback here. Thanks
