Show HN: macOS status bar app for better interaction with web AI chats

Hacker News - Tue, 03/19/2024 - 8:25am

Hi HN!

Heydi's main goal is to reduce context switching. All interactions can be initiated with keyboard shortcut to either open a chat window or send an audio message to a chat. No need to stay on a chat window waiting for response or keep it in focus – you'll be notified once it's ready. It supports ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity.

Looking forward for feedback!

Ask HN: Mac Bluetooth mouse polling rate fix?

Hacker News - Tue, 03/19/2024 - 8:23am

Macs cannot seem to poll the mouse cursor on BT Mice at a fast enough frame rate to keep up with the display when it is running at higher refresh rates. This is especially noticeable if you use a BT mouse or trackpad with a newer MacBook Pro with Promotion display (120hz). Just move the cursor with the mouse and then notice the difference

The prevailing Internet wisdom says that this is a result of Apple's poor choice of BT hardware and to just use a USB mouse or dongle - but this is crazy.

Windows laptops do not have this problem. I have a hard time believing that my midrange Lenovo laptop has such substantially better BT hardware than a MacBook twice the price.

It's got to be software. Has anyone figured out a fix or a hack?

Ask HN: Will AI slow down progression?

Hacker News - Tue, 03/19/2024 - 8:22am

I keep hearing about how AI is going to replace developers, I can’t see it but if it did would it stop progress?

This is my little theory, I work with data so this is data tooling focused but could equally apply to any new technology like rust vs c!

If we had the LLM’s ten years ago and startups created to replace software devs with low code solutions then the AI tools would have been automating Hadoop and Map Reduce and there would have been no reason to invent Spark. My reasoning being that new AI can learn how to use our existing tools but I don’t believe they will create new tools?

Will AI create new tools or will we be stuck with the current generation of tools forever?
