"Making an AI journaling app that works offline – even without internet"

Hacker News - Mon, 04/07/2025 - 5:51pm

Hi HN, I’m a young aspiring developer from Bangladesh, currently building an offline-first, multilingual journaling assistant app called Lokkhi Diary — designed for users in regions with limited internet access.

The goal: To help millions of dreamers like me—who may not always have access to high-end devices or stable internet—use AI-powered journaling and learning tools that actually work offline.

Key features:

Timestamped journaling with version history

Voice-to-text support (Bangla & English)

Offline Bangla-English translation

Smart reminders, search, and structure

A special mode that works like a “personal ChatGPT inside your diary”

I'm building this not just for myself, but for the entire community of learners, writers, and dreamers in low-connectivity areas. I want to create something that feels like magic, but is built with care, empathy, and purpose.

Here’s a rough concept and early progress: [ “coming soon”]

I’d deeply appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or even ideas on how to reach mentors or people like Sam Altman who inspire me to think bigger.

Thanks for reading — and thank you HN for constantly inspiring makers like me to push beyond limits.

P.S. I’ll be in the comments if anyone wants to know more about the tech stack, design challenges, or vision behind this!
