Ask HN: Can Klarna Replace Salesforce and Workday with AI?

Hacker News - Fri, 09/13/2024 - 3:01am

In the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of media coverage of Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski's comment that the company is shutting down its Salesforce and Workday instances by leveraging "a combination of AI, standardization, and simplification".

The details are unclear and Klarna reference a "lightweight" tech stack rather than a complete move away from SaaS solutions, but do people feel it is possible to move away from these enterprise solutions or is this just marketing fluff from a company to justify large scale headcount reductions without spooking the market?

Show HN: Interested in an automated fact checking service?

Hacker News - Fri, 09/13/2024 - 2:46am

Hey everyone, I'm working on an automated fact checking service that works like so:

1. Paste a link to the website, X or facebook comment you want to fact check,

2. Select a quote on the site,

3. We search for relevant results from research databases, reputable news sites and searches on the web,

4. You get a web page with the quote, fact check rating, summary of the findings and sources,

5. Share that generated fact check page back to the source, so people can be aware of the relevant information.

This is a work in progress (currently a landing page) and I'd love to know if you are interested in it (it's worth me continuing to work on). Would love to hear your opinions or ideas :)

Ask HN: Good up-to-date resource for finding best current LLM for a given task?

Hacker News - Fri, 09/13/2024 - 2:39am

Is there a good reference for which models should be preferred for which tasks? As I understand it, there's a decent amount of overlap in the capability of the top models right now (Claude 3, Claude 3.5, GPT4o, OpenAI o1, Gemini 1.5 Pro, Llama 3.1, etc.) but each have their own strengths and weaknesses as well as differences in the API pricing, context windows, usage privacy policies, etc. It'd be nice to know how each stack up against each other for specific use cases. Eg. writing -> use Claude 3, coding -> use Claude 3.5, STEM / logic questions -> OpenAI o1, huge context -> Gemini 1.5 Pro, self-hosting / running locally -> Llama 3.1

I do see a lot of articles on Google from people just personally testing and comparing models based on their own criteria. I haven't found anything yet though that seems to be both thorough and well maintained (given how often new models are released or updated).
