Ask HN: Issues with Apple Pencil?

Hacker News - Sun, 09/15/2024 - 3:08am

Hi There,

I just discoverd that if I leave my Apple Pencil too long off the charger, the pencil dies. My pencil now won't charge and is basically bricked. That is because the pencil hit zero charge and it seems the battery dies whan that happens.

I found this thread[1] that points this out. I couldn't believe it but it basically describes my scenario: I forgot to charge the pencil for a couple of days (or perhaps the best part of a week), charge hit zero percent and now the pencil is bricked.

If that thread is to be believed, I'm not the only one.

What I was wondering is why a) no one at Apple explicitly told me this - by the sounds of it, the battery is rather fragile and needs looking after and b) why does the iPad not give me a warning - the Find My app seems to be able to display the charge level of all my devices and tell me when I leave them behind but it can't warn me if my pencil is dangerously low on power?

Rather disappointing since I now have to go back to the Apple store, explain the situation and hope for the best (I've still got warranty so it should be ok).

I really enjoy my Apple gear, no questions asked! I don't won't to complain but my expectation of Apple was that this kind of thing shouldn't happen - hence my surprise that something this simple (as not charging a device) could lead to it being bricked. Could this also happen to my AirPods?

P.S. I didn't drop the pencil nor place it near nuclear grade weapons, i.e., I did nothing extraordinary with the pencil other than use it!

Show HN: I made a free Canny alternative (customer feedback management tool)

Hacker News - Sun, 09/15/2024 - 2:54am

Hey HN,

I tried Canny to collect customer feedback and build the right features, but…

1. It’s has way too many features for a solo dev 2. $99/month… really?

So I built a free alternative called FeatureFlow.tech:

- Collect feedback from your customers

- Prioritize features

- Build a product users love.

It is also currently live on Product Hunt -> https://www.producthunt.com/products/featureflow-2

You vote will mean a lot to me :)

You can also find me here -> https://x.com/jaynpatel_
